Streetscaping Amigos provide planters and plant materials to help "soften" downtown's public right-of-ways. Taking a cue from the River Walk, these improvements help enhance the pedestrian experience for our many downtown workers, residents, and visitors:

  • The District has added over 600 planters on light poles, on stair rails between street level and the River Walk, and in clusters of large planters throughout the District.

  • The Streetscaping Amigos also use a "Tiger Truck" to assist them in watering and maintaining the District’s planters.

I just wanted to pass along a huge thank you to your organization. I have traveled to several places in the U.S. and a couple of other countries and I have never met a nicer or more helpful local. The Amigo was full of information that helped us tremendously. I wish other cities had people like her around to help out the tourists. Thanks again, you have a wonderful city.

My wife and I would like to compliment you on providing such wonderful guide service while we were on our vacation to San Antonio. Thank you for having such wonderful employees on hand to direct us visitors. I'm sure that we would still be walking around, lost and confused if it were not for their kind words and directions.

Additonal planter clusters have been added to Alamo Plaza, paid for by private donors and maintained by the Streetscaping Amigos. Centro SA will continue to seek sponsorships like this for various locations around the District.

In the future, the District will also explore the possible addition of street furniture such as benches, trash receptacles and directional signage at key locations. The District is responsible for maintaining any physical improvements that it provides. This includes watering, fertilization and replacing seasonal vegetation as necessary. The Streetscaping Amigos program intends to expand in scope each year, as funds are available.
